Consumer court: Dry cleaner issued notice for misplacing shirt

Petitioner claims Rs55,000 in damages.

LAHORE:

A consumer court on Wednesday fixed November 20 for preliminary arguments on a suit seeking Rs55,000 in damages.

The suit has been filed against the proprietor of Shama Dry Cleaners and Steam Press for losing the petitioner’s ‘boski’ shirt.

Muhammad Saeed Awan says that on September 13, he had given a shalwar suit to the shop, located in Baghbanpura, for dry cleaning.

He says when he went to collect his suit, he was told by the owner to come on a later date since his suit could not be washed. When he visited the shop again, he was given a new date. The suit was not returned on his third visit either, he says.

He then learned that the staff had “misplaced” his shirt.

He says he gave them three days to find his shop but his shirt wasn’t returned. He has prayed the court to direct the respondent to pay him Rs50,000 for putting him through mental torture and Rs5,000 as the cost of his suit.

Proprietor Muhammad Ashfaq told The Express Tribune that he had told the petitioner that he would buy him a new shirt but the petitioner had not come to the shop to get the new shirt.
