‘German investors not dissuaded by security issues’
Envoy says increasing number of German businesses interested in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s security issues are not so bad as to completely dissuade German investors from the country, Germany’s Consul General in Karachi Dr Tilo Klinner said on Wednesday. “This is why three to four companies are about to invest in Pakistan in very short time,” he revealed.
“It is just about finding a good business partner in Pakistan,” Dr Klinner told The Express Tribune. “And if you can find a good partner in Pakistan, you can circumvent most problems, including security.”
“Pakistan has not lagged behind in recent years. I can tell you that Pakistan can market itself at the same level where India markets itself today.
Pakistan may be dark from the outset, but the ground reality is different from what many perceive about Pakistan,” he said at the ‘Germany on the road’ exhibition organised here at a local hotel. Dr Klinner said that his office is encouraging German companies to come and see what opportunities they can avail in Pakistan.
The German envoy also revealed that his country will host an investor’s conference for German companies in Pakistan on a big scale in the coming summer, as part of a series of efforts to cater to the interest of German companies in Pakistan. “German companies have shown their interest in investing in Pakistan and we are guiding them as per their area of interest,” he added.
The event was organised by the consulate general of Federal Republic of Germany with the cooperation of the Pakistan Germany Business Forum (PGBF). The event also marked the launch of the new PGBF website.
“We will further increase the PGBF’s activities in the coming months and turn it into a vibrant chamber that facilitates both Pakistani and German companies interested in investing in each others’ respective countries,” he said. He claimed that a lot of Pakistani businessmen are learning German owing to strengthening business links between the two countries.
This was the first exhibition of its kind in Karachi. Earlier, similar exhibitions have been organised in Islamabad, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Multan.
