Meeting the lawyers: ‘Caretaker govt will be announced in March’
PPP south Punjab president announces Rs1 million grant for Bahawalpur district bar.
BAHAWALPUR:
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) south Punjab President Makhdoom Shahabuddin has said that a caretaker government will be announced in March 2013.
He was addressing the district bar on Tuesday.
He also announced a Rs1 million grant for the district bar in Bahawalpur, Rs500,000 each for tehsil bar associations, Rs600,000 for women’s buses and Rs100,000 for Bar Clerks Association.
Praising the contribution of the lawyers’ community, Shahabuddin said that they (lawyers) were a wise people, whose views could not be ignored.
He said the PPP fully supported a south Punjab province.
“Whenever is it created, Bahawalpur would be its capital,” he said.
He added that no decision had yet been taken on when the province will be created.
He said it was instructive how those, who had opposed the Bahawalpur province in 1970, had come round the idea.
He said politically and economically, the south Punjab province held more importance than a Bahawalpur province. He also said that Bahawalpur placed to be a better provincial capital than Multan.
He said the current government was the first civilian government to have completed its tenure without any help from the army.
“I pay tribute to President Asif Ali Zardari for the way he has run this country amid conspiracies against him and democracy,” he said.
The Punjab government, he said, had become a defaulter through their “so called… good governance”.
It was President Zardari who saved them by turning the default into a debt.
Answering a question about the ephedrine case, Shahabuddin said the allegations against him were complete lie.
He said it had been proven with the fact that the Supreme Court had explained its verdict at the time of confirming his bail.
He said the establishment did not want an honest man as the prime minister and that was why it plotted against him.
