Pakistan win Ju-Jitsu championship
Hosts bag seven gold medals in Punjab Sports Festival.
KARACHI:
Pakistan won four gold medals in the Punjab International Sports Festival Ju-Jitsu Championship in Lahore yesterday to add to the three won in earlier events.
Punjab Greens won the Ju-Jitsu Championship, outplaying athletes from Iran, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and South Korea. National champion Mohammad Zeeshan Butt defeated Iran’s Waheed Raza 3-2 in the 85kg event, while in the mixed duo system event, Sundas Salam and Muhammad Alam won the gold competing against the Pakistan Whites team.
“It was the first international Ju-Jitsu tournament in the country so I felt more confident with my performance here compared to our competitions abroad,” Sundas told The Express Tribune.
In other events, Pakistan women defeated Iran 3-0 in the final to bag the Touchball trophy while the hosts beat Sri Lanka 3-0 in the Fistball Championship semi-final.
