Junior hockey: Australia thrash Pakistan 5-1

Drubbing follows a 3-3 draw against NZ in junior hockey event.

KARACHI:
Following a 3-3 result against New Zealand – despite leading 3-0 – Pakistan’s performance dropped further at the Sultan of Johor Cup Junior hockey tournament in a 5-1 drubbing against Australia yesterday.

Australia earned their first penalty-corner in the fourth minute but it was Pakistan who took the lead when Mohammad Dilbar was on target in the 11th minute. Australia equalised through Blake Govers in the 28th minute before Dylan Wotherspoon helped his side take the lead in the 40th minute. Justin Douglas made it 3-1 in the 52nd while Willmore Gillian extended the lead six minutes later. Wotherspoon sealed the 5-1 win when he converted a penalty-corner in the 68th minute.


Meanwhile, India stunned Germany 3-1 in the second match. They sit top of the table followed by Australia, while Pakistan is reeling in fifth place in the six-nation event. Arch-rivals Pakistan and India will meet tomorrow.
