Speed chess: 50 lawyers register for tournament

"Registration is open to male and female lawyers, but no women has so far registered", says LBA General Secretary.

Lawyers will fight for the title of ‘Brain of the Year 2012’ in a speed chess tournament to be held on November 13 and 14 at the upper bar room in Aiwan-i-Adl.



Some 50 lawyers have registered to play the Syed Qari Mian Zaidi Memorial Chess Tournament, which is being organised by the Lahore Bar Association. District and Session Judge Nazir Ahmed Ganjana will be the chief guest at the event. The matches will he 15 minutes long with five second increments.

Advocate Sajjad Haider Saqi, who won the first chess tournament organised by the LBA in 2009, is considered one of the early favourites for the championship, said lawyers at the LBA bar room. Saqi played six matches and remained unbeaten at the 2009 tournament. LBA General Secretary Asad Abbas Zaidi said that registration was open to male and female lawyers, but no women had so far registered. He said that the Punjab Chess Association was helping the LBA organise the tournament.
