Ali auditorium: US bluegrass band performs Tuesday

Della Mae, an all-woman bluegrass band from the Untied States, will perform at Ali Auditorium at the Ali Institute, Ferozepur Road at 6:15pm today (Tuesday). Della Mae was formed in New England in 2009 and was recently nominated for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s ‘Emerging Artist of the Year’ for 2012. The band has toured throughout the US at festivals, music clubs, concert halls and churches besides conducting workshops. Apart from Pakistan, the band is touring Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan as part of the American Music Abroad programme of the US State Department. Della Mae has already performed at the Fatima Jinnah University in Islamabad. The band includes lead singer Celia Woodsmith, guitarist Courtney Hartman, bass player Shelby Means, mandolinist Jenni Lyn Gardner and violinist Kimber Ludiker.

According to a PU statement, a meeting was held on the campus on Sunday to review arrangements for the ceremony to distribute laptops. Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran said the laptops distribution would be monitored by departmental committees.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Nawaz Sharif is expected to attend the event at the PU today.
