India beat Pakistan outfit in hockey event
Tourists claim Dosti Cup hockey event at Punjab Youth Festival.
KARACHI:
India clinched the Dosti Cup Hockey event at the Punjab Youth Festival after beating the Pakistan Punjab side 3-1 at the Johar Hockey Stadium in Lahore.
India found the net twice in the first-half before Pakistan managed their opening goal in the second. However, India scored in the 60th minute to seal the win and clinch the series on the fourth day of the event.
Meanwhile, the hosts clinched the tug of war competition, beating India 2-0 in the final.
In other events, Pakistan finished top of the table in the ju-jitsu event, finishing with three gold medals Iran were placed second, while Mauritius got one silver and a bronze to finish third. Iraq, South Korea and Kyrgyzstan shared the bronze medal in the belt-wrestling events.
In the touchball event of the festival, Afghanistan hammered Nepal 2-1, while Pakistan earned a walk over against Somalia and Sri Lanka thrashed Nepal 8-1.
Meanwhile, Serbia defeated Punjab Greens 2-1 in the football tournament. Punjab Greens scored in the 20th minute before Serbia equalised in the 61st minute. However, Haurtan Janik found the opening in the 81st minute to seal his side’s win.
In the second match of the day, Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan 16-1. Serbia lead the points table with six.
