Dam Petition: Need for KBD can’t be denied says LHC
Chief Justice LHC summoned the record of the Council of Common Interests’ 1991 meeting regarding the dam.
LAHORE:
Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the Lahore High Court said on Thursday that the government should explain why it has delayed the construction of Kalabagh Dam for so long, as the need for the reservoir could not be denied in the midst of water and electricity shortages in Pakistan. The chief justice observed, however, that the objections, apprehensions and reservations of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa about the dam would have to be removed. He made these comments while issuing notice to the Ministry of Water and Power on a petition seeking directions to the government to build Kalabagh Dam. He also summoned the record of the Council of Common Interests’ 1991 meeting regarding the dam and adjourned proceedings till November 29.
