Splgo 2012: ‘Ordinance does not clash with the spirit of the constitution’
Speaker Khuhro says court cannot declare SPLGO 2012 as 'null and void'.
KARACHI:
Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that the court could not declare the Sindh Peoples Local Government System 2012 as ‘null and void’ because the new ordinance did not clash with spirit of constitution.
“It is the responsibility of provincial assemblies and the parliament to make the law and courts can only interpret them,” Khuhro said after meeting foreign delegates in his office on Thursday.
He did, however, appreciate the apex court’s decision in the Asghar Khan case and said that though the generals were held responsible for distributing money among politicians for rigging the 1990 election, no directives have been issued against politicians involved in this political scam. “Why does the court not take action against these corrupt politicians who have been benefitted from this racket?” He added that it was about time the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto murder case was taken up as well.
He added that no one has the power to utilise 58(2) B in order to dissolve the parliament and the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government would foil all conspiracies being hatched to destabilise democracy. Nisar Khuhro proudly said that the first elected government would set a new precedent by completing its tenure in the 66-year history of Pakistan.
