Ammunition recovered: Police raid scrap warehouse
“Unfortunately the owner managed to escape, but we are conducting raids to arrest him,” says SHO Yasin.
PESHAWAR:
The police recovered a cache of ammunition during a raid on a scrap godown on Ring Road in the jurisdiction of Yakatot police station on Tuesday. Qurbanullah, the godown’s owner and a resident of Sheikhabad, however, managed to escape. Items recovered included live artillery shells brought in from Afghanistan, around 20 hand grenades, four mortar shells, 35 fuses and 53 RPG-7 shells. The police acted on the information that some warehouses were smuggling and dealing in military ammunition and selling them to militants. Explosive materials were then being used in homemade bombs. SHO Yasin said that the raid was a major success after discovering a factory in the Chamkani area, which was illegally purchasing and facilitating ammunitions from scrap dealers. “Unfortunately the owner managed to escape, but we are conducting raids to arrest him,” he explained.
