Governor summons Balochistan Assembly session on November 13

Nawab Zulfiqar Magsi has given written permission to Balochistan Assembly speaker to hold session.

Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Magsi has summoned a session of the Balochistan Assembly on November 13 on the request of Speaker Muhammad Aslam Bhootani, reported Express News on Monday.

The governor has given written permission to the speaker to summon a session.

After the Supreme Court passed an interim order in the Balochistan law and order case, it became unclear whether the provincial government retained its constitutional status.

On Monday, a letter was written to the provincial governor’s secretariat to ascertain whether a meeting of the provincial assembly could be called or not.

The assembly’s speaker had questioned whether an attempt to summon a session of the Balochistan Assembly would amount to contempt of court.

While the government is still technically in place, its legitimacy came under closer scrutiny after the Supreme Court questioned its constitutional status, given that it had lost the authority to govern the province following its interim order last month.
