Scorers sit idle in football league
Two goalless matches recorded at PPFL.
KARACHI:
NBP held Afghan FC to a goalless draw in Chaman, while ZTBL and PMC Athletico also failed to score in a dull day at the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL).
In a surprise result, Afghan FC, currently placed 12th in the 16-team event, were able to contain their higher-ranked opponents on their home turf. The draw meant NBP stay at sixth place after a total of 30 points in 19 games.
However, NBP coach Nasir Ismail was satisfied with the result. “Conditions in Chaman are tough,” Ismail told The Express Tribune. “The pitch is not so easy and players are reluctant due to fear of injury. Afghan FC players are used to these conditions so I feel a draw is a reasonable result for us.”
NBP went down 1-0 to Muslim FC in Chaman last week and Ismail said that the team showed some improvement to contain the hosts. “Muslim FC and Afghan FC are different teams on their home ground. They’re backed by their crowd and their game gets a lot better. I’m proud of my defenders.”
