Kaleemullah hits winner as KRL win

Wapda’s woeful season continues in football league.

KARACHI:

KRL continued to dominate the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) as they defeated an out-of-form Wapda 1-0 in Rawalpindi yesterday.

KRL’s Kaleemullah helped the defending champions take the lead in the ninth minute of the match as four-time PPFL champions Wapda failed to equalise.

According to Wapda captain Arif Mehmood, the team has seen its worst season this year. Out of 17 matches, they have now lost five, won five while the rest were drawn.

“Defeating KRL was difficult but this is our first match where we haven’t scored even a single goal,” Mehmood told The Express Tribune. “It’s embarrassing because we have scored 19 goals in our 17 matches. Six of our players are injured this season and that’s definitely taking its toll on us.”

KRL lead the league with 40 points and celebrated their 12th win out of 16 matches.

Meanwhile, Army replaced KESC in second place after crushing PMC Athletico 3-0 on their home ground.

Muhammad Shabbir scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute, while Mohammad Ikram doubled the lead in the 45th minute. Army’s top scorer Ansar Abbas scored his ninth goal of the season in the 87th minute and sealed the victory for his team.

They now have 37 points while PMC Athletico hold on to the 14th position with 12 points.

In another match, Afghan FC won their fourth match of the league, beating HBL 2-1 in Chaman. They are now on placed 13th with 15 points, while HBL stay at 12th spot.
