Waste to energy: 304MW to be generated from garbage

Industrial waste and biogas-based energy projects, with an aggregate capacity of 247MW, are in line to generate power

ISLAMABAD:
The government is implementing projects with installment of plants to generate 304 megawatts (MW) of electricity from garbage in different cities of the country. Of the total, projects using agricultural waste with an aggregate capacity of 57MW are in various stages of completion. Industrial waste and biogas-based energy projects, with an aggregate capacity of 247MW, are also in line to generate power. A senior official said that agricultural waste projects are being executed in Sindh, Shahkot, Okara and Pak Pattan. He said industrial waste to energy projects include 27MW plant in DI Khan, a 15MW plant to be constructed by Peshawar Electric Supply Company and AlMoiz Industries while 14 new waste to energy projects were awarded licence.
