Energy sector: USAID helps DISCOs improve delivery

The project aims to modernise the P&E department of DISCOs, improving energy distribution across Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: The US is strengthening Pakistan’s energy sector to improve energy delivery. In this regard, the Unites States Agency for International Development (USAID) Power Distribution Program inaugurated a Planning and Engineering (P&E) computer centre at the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco), according to a press release. The USAID power programme was also helping other distribution companies (DISCOs) establish similar centres and provided successful trainings to the P&E managers of all nine government-owned DISCOs. The project aims to modernise the P&E department of DISCOs, improving energy distribution across Pakistan. USAID was providing DISCOs with state of the art equipment and software, expert consultations, and introducing international best practices to ensure a more reliable supply of power to consumers.
