At least seven people were killed in a clash between the Lund and Shar tribes in Deharki tehsil, Ghotki.

GHOTKI:
At least seven people were killed in a clash between the Lund and Shar tribes in Deharki tehsil, Ghotki.

The ongoing dispute between the tribes took a turn for the violent on Thursday when more than 20 armed men belonging to the Lund tribe attacked the Pirano Shar village and fired rockets, killing seven members of the Shar tribe.

They were identified as Ahmed Khan Shar, Ahmed Ali Shar, Ali Muhammad, Shahzado, Hyderi Shar, Dilbar and Kehar Shar. More than 20 others were injured.

After the initial attack, the Lund tribe seized the bodies and refused to hand them over. A gun battle began between the two parties which ended after one member of the Shar tribe came out with the Quran in his hand, signalling a truce. The Lund men handed over the bodies to them after the gesture.

Alam Khan Shar, an important member of the tribe, told Daily Express that two of his tribesmen, Ghulam Rasool and Allah Darkhao Shar, were kidnapped by the Lund tribe. Meanwhile, Jalaluddin Lund accused the Shars of beating up and then kidnapping three members of his tribe. However, neither side commented on the accusations made by either side.

According to residents, a police team, including officers from 10 different police stations, led by SPO Ubauro Abbas Shah arrived at the site after five hours.

They took the bodies of the victims into custody while the bereaved families protested.

According to the families, the two tribes had an ongoing dispute over last week and there were several firing incidents in different villages.

Despite repeated complaints to the police, SHO Khenjo did not take any action. They blamed the SHO for the killings on Thursday. SPO Shah assured them that justice will be served.

The bodies were taken for autopsies. No case was registered and no arrests were made until the filing of this report.

The villages of the two tribes are a kilometre apart and two kilometres away from the Khenjo police station. The Lund tribe had accused the Shar tribe of stealing a motorcycle from Ali Nawaz Lund. Firing incidents have continued between the two tribes ever since.

People in the areas near these villages have started moving out due to the constant clashes. Meanwhile, all transportation in the villages has come to a complete halt.
