3 more ministers quit ahead of India cabinet reshuffle
SM Krishna and Ambika Soni had resigned from the cabinet earlier as well.
Three more ministers resigned from the Indian cabinet ahead of a reshuffle expected on Sunday, Times of India reported on Saturday. SM Krishna and Ambika Soni had earlier resigned from the cabinet.
New ministers will take oath on Sunday morning at around 11:30am, a Rashtrapati Bhavan official said.
Subodh Kant Sahai resigned as Tourism minister and Mukul Wasnik as Social Justice and Empowerment minister, while sources said Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Mahadev Khandela had also stepped down.
Krishna, whose political career stretches back nearly half a century, had said he wanted to make way for a younger generation, while a senior member of the main ruling Congress party said Krishna would be playing a leading role in an upcoming election campaign in his traditional fiefdom of Karnataka.
The reshuffle comes after the Trinamool Congress - which had six ministers - quit the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and the government last month.
