‘Feel At Home’: VC to host lunch for Baloch students today

More than 80 Baloch and Pakhtun students will attend the lunch.

LAHORE:

The Punjab University vice chancellor will host a lunch today (Saturday) for students belonging to Balochistan who recently joined the university.

More than 80 Baloch and Pakhtun students will attend the lunch, which will be hosted at the VC’s house. The invitation follows a recent clash between the Baloch students and the Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT).

“The university’s focus is to make all students feel secure and safe,” Isar Rana, the university’s public relations director.

About three months ago, the university had decided to reserve a seat for Baloch students in each of the 73 departments and its 10 affiliate colleges. According to Rana, the decision was made to provide Baloch students “equal opportunities”. Rana said the students were given a monthly scholarship of Rs3,000 by the university. No fee is charged from the students, he said.

Khurram Shahzad, the PRO, said most of the Baloch students will spend their Eid in Lahore. “This is the first time they have come to our university and we want to make them feel at home, especially on Eid,” he explained.
