LAHORE:

A day ahead of Eid, people arrested for petty crimes seemed to be in a hurry to get bails from a duty magistrate so they could celebrate Eid with their loved ones. Only 22 of them were lucky enough.

Muhammad Arshad, who had allegedly thrashed another man, requested his release and started weeping when the judge jokingly said that he would be sent to jail. On a query by the judge, Arshad said that his counsel had assured him that his was a bailable offence. The judge, later, released him on bail.

Lawyers and litigants were seen exchanging hot words in their effort to appear first before the judge. Some suspects snubbed police officials for producing them late before the court.

Liquatabad police produced seven people before the court who they said had been arrested for immoral activities.

After they were sent on judicial remand, the accused applied for bails which were granted.

Those released were Sonia, Shazia, Sumaira, Ghulam Abbas, Abusatar, Javed Hassan and Ashfaq Ali.

Around five men were handed over to police on physical remand while more than eleven were sent on judicial remand. They were involved in theft and murder cases.
