There is no doubt that the long-suffering people of Fata want an end to drone attacks and have the human right to live in peace as does everyone else on this increasingly war torn planet. However, peace cannot be achieved overnight and certainly not by encouraging the anti-peace people — be these militants or troublemakers of various descriptions — to meld back into the people they are responsible for terrorising and at the location where, it goes without saying, they will concentrate on multiplying their ranks in readiness for their next eruption.
American drone strikes, whether or not they are sanctioned by the Government of Pakistan, are against all international conventions and must stop before more innocent civilians are killed. But the terrorists/militants/Taliban/troublemakers that drone strikes are aimed at should not be allowed to go free; they must be rounded up and dealt with in no uncertain terms if there is to be even hope of peace. This, realistically, could have and should have been done a long time ago but someone, somewhere, has their own and so far undisclosed reasons for allowing their continued existence.
The fact of the matter is that the exorbitant cost of what was blatant vote hunting — and ‘Thoughtless Khan’ would be lying through his teeth if he claims otherwise — was, from a peace point of view, a complete and utter waste of time, resources and people power which, if peace really had been the ultimate objective, could have been far more wisely used.
Establishing the writ of durable peace is a very lengthy and challenging task to which, unfortunately, there is no shortcut. The money wasted on ‘Thoughtless Khan’s attempt at the political Box Office record should — if peace really lives in his attention-seeking heart — have been used on educational and health projects in the drone and terrorist ravaged border regions where outwitting and out-manoeuvring one’s enemy has always been the name of the deadly game called ‘Tribal Life’, which ‘Thoughtless Khan’ apparently — despite his Pashtun-posturing — neither knows of or understands the rules. Enemies are dealt with being way up the list.
Sweeping terrorists of any brand, and there are many, underneath the electoral platform does not make them evaporate. The mind becomes boggled thinking about the size and shape of the plans the troublemakers will covertly hatch in the dark!

Let me state here that I do not belong to any political party, however,I found Ms. Zahra's comments inj her article totally vague & out of context. What she is referring to as a Tamasha or thoughtless march, was in fact a wake up call, which was acknowledged across the globe. The issue was successfully raised , as well as the number of families displaced,innocent men, women & children killed in this mad exercise. I feel Ms. Zahra's article is nothing but a continiuty of rhetoric started by a few analysts sometime back i.e. critisizm for the sake of critisizm.She failed to appreciate what was gained out of that march, an initiative which neither this govt. or any other political party even contemplated of attempting. I guess this unnecessary fault finding exercise should stop now.

@Solomon2:
"What conventions? Those that still exist in law abiding countries. Does that answer your question? If not, look up the case accepted in the UK court against drone strikes"
Please put down the copy of Atlas Shrugged--it interferes with your concentration--and read the whole comment again.
"What conventions? Those that still exist in law abiding countries -"
@Sultan: No, it's up to you to be specific, otherwise you're running on empty as much as the author of this article, making stuff out of thin air for convenience and failing to check facts out of laziness or fear of discovery.
@3footninja:
Thanks buddy. I thought I was going crazy or something--it does sound like Godzilla attacking Tokyo--very frightening indeed!
I read in this same paper today our lawbreakers, sorry lawmakers, are being escorted by the army to Kotkai, the hometown of Hakeemullah Meshud where that traitor Imran wanted to go. But we can rest assured, our Bhurban scholar, after a nice round of golf and some fresh "lemonade" will have raving reviews about this trip because on that day, the world is going to flip axis, reversing bad to good, dark to white, etc.
@Sultan: How silly of you to ask such a question. Peace marches are by definition a threat to national security because of the death and destruction they cause to life and property of all those who happen to be on their path. This is what makes Imran Khan's act: a) thoughtless, b) shameless, c) cowardly. Just ask Ms. Zahrah Nasir and Mr. Feisal Naqvi and they'll tell you all about it. Its a "peace march" after all... duh!
I give up. Help!!! Can some one please explain to me how Imran's peace march will do more harm than good?

@sabi:
Which planet did you land from? Imran of course does not know if he will have landslide or a huge number but still less than clear majority--however, either way, he will be a big force in politics. He is a human, not a clairvoyant. Stop the odorous drivel please.
@Baloch-Liberation:
Don't pay too much attention to this lady's gaga, she lives in Bhurban and was probably hit on the head with a golf ball!

So now would you suggest that the money spent on this excursion of the parliamentary committee should also be spent elsewhere?
I guess you just want people to sit in the comfort of their homes and criticize or protest against everything wrong with this country. But I'm really sorry, as sitting in the comfort of our homes wouldn't change anything.. we need to go out and show solidarity to the affected people.
Stop criticizing someone who has a just cause!!!
Fantastic article! IK brigade who are computer savy are misusing the facility. IK established by Shuja Pasha to divide the votes of PML(N). TI or IK cannot win in elections till eternity. Maximum, IK party will get 2-3 seats.
Another thoughtless article. Everyone volunteered to go Waziristan. It is not like thoughtless money spent on staging records that can be easily made by anyone after spending public money. Students were transported from various places. These are like peanut event for countries like China and India but they are not spending public money for self advertisement. If people would have volunteered to go stadium then it would be different. Please give some thought before chalking few words against cause that has been endorse by our parliament.
"American drone strikes, whether or not they are sanctioned by the Government of Pakistan, are against all international conventions and must stop before more innocent civilians are killed. "
Really? Under post-9/11 international law Pakistan has the binding sovereign obligation to eliminate terrorists, terror havens, terror financing, etc. from its territory, so failure to undertake activity to do so - as in N. Wazirstan - negates Pakistani sovereignty. Military action against Al Qaeda and its allies by the U.S. and its allies is justifiable self-defense, as Al-Qaeda already killed 3,000 people on 9/11 and attempts to kill more. So what "international conventions" is the author referring to, exactly? Not stuff she made up out of thin air to support her arguments, I hope?
If someone listens to IK he says PTI will sweep the election Inshallah and in the same breath negates his first statement with other by saying his party will not form a coalition instead will preffer to stay in opposition.If he is so sure of sweeping election then there should be no question of forming coalition govt. or siting in opposition.No clarity of thoughts!
Please give me a break from IK bashing articles. Going by that logic, every political movement & every act of marketing is a waste of time and money. Don't get me wrong. We can very well argue that whether some other expenditure would have been a more productive alternative to Khan's rally, but calling people and bashing them to the hilt just because we think otherwise is either plain ignorance or arrogance.
Here we go again. Why I'm not surprised on another IK bashing article. I'm sure an overwhelming majority of these ET readers can think for themselves and judge as whether the Waziristan March by PTI ("Thoughless Khan") was good or bad. Ironically, Ms Zahrah Nasir says "if peace really lives in his attention-seeking heart — have been used on educational and health projects... Well, my I remind you that your "Thoughtless Khan" is currently running multi million dollar state of the art cancer hospital and a university for the poor. So he has the moral authority and courage to lead such rallies and those who follow him are not naive by any standards.
This is naive to the point of stupid. In the developing world elections are not won on those things, they are won on scoring brownie points and emotionally satisfying the nation. If it were what you suggested no party in pakistan would win the elections except PTI. How i wish it was not that way!!
