Case disposed: ‘Graveyard at GT road returned to Hindu community’

A two-member Supreme Court bench on Tuesday disposed of a case after it was informed that an encroachment on a graveyard belonging to the Hindu community at Grand Trunk (GT) road in Lahore had been removed.
An additional advocate general told the court that the land had been returned to the graveyard’s caretakers.
The bench was hearing a human rights case initiated on an application filed by Hindu Sudhar Sabha general secretary Amarnath.
The petitioner had submitted that local land grabbers were trying to construct commercial property on land occupied by a Hindu graveyard. He said a similar fate had been suffered by many Hindu properties in the country. The bench had directed the chief secretaries of all provinces to submit reports on the status of all graveyards belonging to the Hindu community by this hearing. However, no such report was filed by any of the provinces on Tuesday.
