Neither police nor residents of the area could identify any reason for the woman’s actions.
SUKKUR:
Divers fished out the body of a woman and a young boy from the Rohri Canal near Gambat in Khairpur district on Tuesday.
There were reports that Aliya*, 45, had jumped into the canal along with three of her children.
Aliya’s body, along with that of her six-year-old son were fished out several hours after eyewitnesses had seen them jump into the canal. Whereabouts of the woman’s other children, a five-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl were not known till the filing of this report.
No case had been registered either. Some children in the area had apparently noticed the family jumping into the canal and informed other people. Residents of the area as well as divers then rushed off to the site. Neither police nor residents of the area could identify any reason for the woman’s actions. Assistant head constable at Gambat police station, Jawed Ahmed, said that Aliya had not taken any items from her house when she left.
