PPP, PML-Q at odds over election symbols
Chaudhry Shujaat meets with Zardari, wants questions answered on new alliances brokered in Sindh.
ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat has said that they will not contest the upcoming elections under the same electoral symbol as that of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Express News reported on Monday.
In a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari in the presidency on Monday, the PML-Q chief said that they will not contest the upcoming elections under the ruling party’s election symbol, adding that they cannot forego their own identity at the polls.
Shujaat further stressed that the PPP should clear its position on the coalition in Sindh after a string of recent alliances brokered by the ruling party in the province. Shujaat also called for a summit meeting in Islamabad to discuss the matter further.
Zardari tried to assuage Shujaat's fears and said that designs harboured by a few individuals to create differences between the two allies in the National Assembly will not be allowed to succeed.
