Memo to secretariat: Tariq Magsi appeals for opposition chief’s appointment
Provincial assembly has been functioning without an opposition leader for the past four years.
QUETTA:
Provincial legislator Nawabzada Tariq Magsi on Monday appealed for the appointment of a leader of the opposition through a letter he sent to the Balochistan Assembly Secretariat. Tariq Magsi is the younger brother of Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Magsi.
Sources said that the letter called for the immediate appointment of a leader of the opposition in the house. The provincial assembly has been functioning without an opposition leader for the past four years.
Moreover, the lone opposition member, Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind, has not attended any recent assembly session due to personal reasons. And hence his effectiveness as a leader of the opposition has been under a cloud.
“Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly Aslam Bhootani is currently out of the city. He will look into the affair once he’s back,” sources in the Balochistan Assembly said. It is not known whether his political associates in the assembly will join him.
Despite the fact that Magsi is a supporter of the government, he submitted the letter for the opposition benches.
Political pundits speculate that Nawab Magsi, who announced earlier that he wanted to quit politics, will probably support his younger brother and help prop him up as opposition leader first and then as the chief minister.
