Humanitarian aid: Denmark offers $2.6m to flood victims

Half of the Danish contribution is going to the World Food Programme (WFP) and the other half will be given to Unicef.

ISLAMABAD:
Denmark has announced $2.6 million in immediate humanitarian assistance to Pakistan’s flood victims, the country’s Minister for Development Christian Friis Bach said on Friday.

“The new flood situation in Pakistan is an overlooked humanitarian disaster,” Bach stated. Hundreds of thousands are without any shelter or food. Many of them were already very vulnerable due to poverty and similar floods in the past two years, the Danish Embassy said in a statement on Friday.

“Although the extent of the floods are collectively less compared to the past two years, the impact is still disastrous,” Ambassador Ole E Moesby said. Half of the Danish contribution is going to the World Food Programme (WFP) and the other half will be given to Unicef.
