Honouring courage: President institutes youth peace prize
Malala Yousafzai was the first recipient for whom the prime minister had announced a National Peace Award.
President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday instituted the Rs500,000 ‘National Peace Prize for Youth’ in honour of under-18 youth who show extraordinary courage or talent by undertaking acts and thoughts that make a difference in addressing the issues related to education and peace in society, an official handout said.
Malala Yousafzai was the first recipient for whom the prime minister had announced a National Peace Award in order to recognise her personal valour in championing the cause of women’s education.
She, therefore, is the first recipient of the National Peace Prize for Youth for the year 2011, the handout said.
