300 new industrial units to be established in 15 months
Presently 100 industrial units including some big multinationals are already in operation.
LAHORE:
About 300 new industrial units are expected to be set up at the Sundar Industrial Estate (SIE) in the next 15 months, stated Chairman SIE S M Tanveer while addressing a press briefing at SIE headquarters here on Wednesday.
Presently 100 industrial units including some big multinationals are already in operation. This has been possible because of a drive launched by SIE management to facilitate genuine industrialists, while sidelining speculators, he added.
The chairman said that plots at SIE had been allocated at lower rates of Rs3.5 million per acre for setting up an industry back in 2004. Despite a lapse of five to six years, a vast majority of these plots had yet to be utilised, he said, adding that SIE had invested billion of rupees in the development of ultra-modern industrial infrastructure in the estate which stood grossly underutilised.
Tanveer explained that the objective of the establishment of industrial estate was to create job opportunities and alleviate poverty. This could only be done by facilitating genuine industrialists while at the same time cancelling the plots of speculators.
