Consumer right: Notice issued on defective car

Accused said he had also offered to return the car price.

LAHORE:

A consumer court issued a notice on Friday to Adil Zafar Motors Chief Executive Rustam Ali for November 23 in a suit seeking Rs500,000 damages for allegedly selling a defective car.

Petitioner Mumtaz Javed submitted that on May 4, 2012, she had purchased Suzuki Alto for Rs577,000. On reaching home, she noticed that the car’s engine oil was leaking. She said she contacted Ali who asked her to visit his shop. She said she did and was told that an engine oil seal had broken. The seal was replaced but the problem persisted. Later, she said, the car started wobbling. She asked the court to direct Ali to pay Rs500,000 for the mental agony. She also sought directions for Ali to either replace the car or return the money. Talking to The Express Tribune, Ali said the car was indeed found wobbling. He said he had promised the petitioner he would change all four tyres but she had not agreed. He said he had also offered to return the car price.
