LWMC makes Eid cleaning arrangements

Five to eight tons of waste is collected from each market daily and transported to the dump site.

LAHORE:

The Lahore Waste Management Company has made special arrangements to keep the city clean during the upcoming Eid holidays, their busiest time of the year.

“As Eid is approaching, leaves of field staff and officers have been cancelled and preparations are in full swing to make Lahore even cleaner during the Eid festivities,” said the LWMC in a press release. The company has set up camps in all animal markets, which are bustling with goods these days. Containers have been placed at the markets for the disposal of leftover animal feed, animal refuse and other waste. Five to eight tons of waste is collected from each market daily and transported to the dump site. As part of a PR campaign, LWMC ‘social mobilisers’ are visiting schools, colleges, madrassas, mosques and markets to inform people about the need to safely dispose of animal waste. Teams are going door-to-door handing out waste bags and literature on how to maintain a healthy environment. Citizens can also call the LWMC helpline at 1139.

The company is sending text messages about cleanliness every day to more than 30,000 people. It is also using social media to raise awareness about the need for cleanliness.

Next week, the LWMC will send out vehicles fixed with loud speakers to inform citizens about emergency contact numbers and camps set up for Eid.
