SUKKUR: Around two kilogrammes of pure heroin worth over Rs60 million were found during a raid conducted by Sukkur police in Qasim Khoso village on Tuesday.

After a tip-off, the recently appointed Sukkur ASP, Masood Ahmed Bangash, led a raid on the house of suspected drug dealer, Mujahid Khoso. They arrested ten suspects and found three Kalashnikovs and a number of rounds of ammunition in their possession.

A case was registered at Site police station, Sukkur, against five people, including Mujahid Khoso, his brother Munawwar aka Munoo Khoso, Jawed Khoso, Altaf Khoso and Zulfiqar Khoso. No arrests, however, were made till filing of this report.

Mujahid Khoso and his brother Munawwar, who escaped before the raid, are suspected to be involved in the drug trade and have connections with influential people. The police turned a blind eye to the drug trade prevalent in the area and never raided the village as they feared a violent backlash from criminals.

Bangash told The Express Tribune that drug dealers had called him several times and offered him bribes of up to Rs10 million, but he always refused. “Self-respect is greater than money. An officer with a positive mindset can bring about a change in society and that is what I am trying to do,” said Bangash. He added that as a police officer he would always uphold the law and target criminals, no matter how powerful they are.

“I took action against butchers who were selling diseased animal meat and bookies during the cricket season.”
