Camel milk competition held in Bahawalpur

Winning camel gives 17.1 liters of milk .

BAHAWALPUR:

A camel milk competition was held in Jigayat Pir livestock and dairy farm in Khairpur Tamewali on Tuesday. It was organised by the livestock and dairy development sector under the Punjab Youth Festival 2012.

The first prize was won by Rana Abdul Qadeer’s camel called Bhawali, which gave 17.1 liters of milk. The owner of the camel was awarded Rs150,000.

The second prize was won by Shah Baig’s camel, Katti, which gave 15.7 liters of milk. The owner was awarded Rs100,000.

The owner of the winner of third prize was given Rs75,000, whose camel gave 15.1 liters of milk.

Winning camel’s owner Qadeer told The Express Tribune that he fed the camel fresh grass and milk everyday.

Baig said he sold camel’s milk to make a living. He hoped his camel would win the first prize next time.He said he took it to a veterinary doctor regularly.

Talat Naseer Pasha, the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Bahawalpur vice chancellor, was the chief guest at the competition.

Addressing the award ceremony, he said that livestock played an important role in the development of a country. He said such events would help promote camel farming.

Vice Chancellor of Islamia University said that camel milk was used to make one of the best-selling chocolates in France.

He said camel milk could also be used in variety of products in Pakistan.

The award ceremony was followed by camel dancing and horse dancing performances.
