President's Trophy: Adnan, Sami shine on rain-affected day
Weather disrupts third round of President’s Trophy.
KARACHI:
SBP’s Adnan Rasool and PQA’s Mohammad Sami made it a bowlers’ day as rain marred the start of the third round of the President’s Trophy that commenced at various venues yesterday.
No opening day proceedings were possible in the match between HBL and ZTBL at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore due to rain and bad light and it was the same in Faisalabad for the match between Wapda and KRL. Only 33.4 overs could be bowled in the game between SNGPL and NBP at Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot.
Adnan stars with five-wicket haul
However, off-spinner Adnan stole the limelight by taking five wickets for just 50 runs as SBP dominated UBL, reducing their opponents to 229 for nine at the UBL sports Complex in Karachi.
Apart from the spinner, Rizwan Haider was also impressive, grabbing three wickets for 49 runs. Uncapped Mohammad Sami junior saved the hosts with an unbeaten 81. Fahim Qureshi also chipped in with a valuable 48.
Sami claims four for Port Qasim
Meanwhile, Pakistan international Sami showed he still has the quality of a top pacer, taking four wickets for 48 runs for PQA at the National Stadium.
Shoaib Khan, with an unbeaten 61, anchored the PIA innings who were on 242 for six at stumps. Apart from Shoaib, wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed struck another half-century in the event, scoring a defiant 53 from 85 deliveries.
SNGPL make 111 for three
Meanwhile, SNGPL compiled 111 for three in 33.4 overs against NBP before bad weather stopped play in Sialkot. Mohammad Hafeez, who scored back-to-back half centuries in the second round, was dismissed after making 43, while Umar Akmal was playing on 19.
Misbahul Haq, who registered a pair in the last match, succeeded in opening his account and will resume his innings today.
