Classical music evening: Zaman brothers enthral music aficionados

The Kasur Gharana duo showed outstanding performance at RAC.

Two noted masters of khayal gaiki (khayal singing) enthralled audience at the jam-packed auditorium of the Rawalpindi Arts Council’s (RAC) classical music evening on Saturday, said a press release issued by the council.


The Pride of Performance-winning classical singer-brothers, Ustad Badruz Zaman and Ustad Qamaruz Zaman of the Kasur Gharana (school of classical music singing) presented various ragas, including raag aiman, raag darbari, and kaafi, mesmerising the audience. The execution of the difficult ragas by the two masters was excellent. Young table player Fehmi accompanied the two masters, earning plaudit from the audience.

After attaining the basic knowledge of classical music, the duo masters have been performing since 1956, carrying forward the Kasur Gharana’s tradition of the art of khayal music.

Senator Najma Hameed, who was chief guest, said that both the singers are a great asset of Pakistan who have been associated with music for more than half a century.

She praised the efforts of the RAC for providing quality entertainment to the people.

RAC director Naheed Manzoor paid tribute to Ustad Badruz Zaman and Ustad Qamaruz Zaman for coming from Lahore to perform for the people of the Potohar region.

“The basic aim of holding such events is revival of the dying classical music,” Sajjad Hussain, RAC Assistant Director, said.
