Fakhra Yunus case: Court summons prime suspect
Several NGOs have filed a petition asking the court to reopen the acid attack case.
KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court has summoned the prime suspect in the Fakhra Yunus case on November 6 after it was told that he had not received the previous notice. Allegedly attacked by veteran politician Ghulam Mustafa Khar’s son Bilal Khar in 2000, Fakhra Yunus jumped to her death in the Italian city of Rome on March 17. Several non-governmental organisations have filed a petition asking the court to reopen the acid attack case, stating that Bilal Khar had threatened and influenced the witnesses in the previous case. The witnesses had changed their statements while the testimonies of the key witnesses, including Fakhra Yunus, her doctor, sister, brother-in-law and the complainant, were not recorded. The previous decision should be declared invalid and statements of the witnesses should be recorded in an independent atmosphere, the applicants requested.
