Speaking to the media at Karachi airport, Malik referred to the Taliban as “oppressors” and said that the entire nation was united against them, the report stated.
The report further quoted Malik as saying that the terrorists had not just attacked 14-year-old child rights activist Malala Yousafzai but had attacked the entire nation. He added that the government and the military will decided whether there is a need for an operation in North Waziristan or not.
The US has long been calling on Pakistan to go after the deadliest Afghan insurgents, the Haqqani network, which is believed to be based in North Waziristan.
Islamabad had voiced concerns when US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta disclosed that the Pakistani military was planning to start an operation against militants in North Waziristan, which invited strong criticism in Pakistan.
Pakistan government and military has maintained that they will not be pushed into launching an operation in North Waziristan, and that troops will only be sent in once if and when the state feels the need.

"Interior minister says North Waziristan has become hub of terrorists; government, military to decide about operation." One thing that shall come throughout country surely,id est,the more terrorism shall spread and more innocent people especially women and children shall be killed in Pakistan and you and military officials shall be saved in fortified palaces under the tightest foolproof security blanket. Please never give air to the more and more innocent killings in Pakistan by the barbarians Taliban and resolve all the issues regarding Taliban and terrorism thru negotiations and peace talks so that peace process could be completed and more and more innocent lives could be saved from sinless killings and stop US' war within Pakistan at least now because how many innocent girls like Malala Yousufzai you shall sacrifice in the future.....
@Baba Ji: @Paindoo: Sic minds, disgusting comments. My dear friends, don't stoop so low to give a conspiracy angle to support these barbarians who have not only tried to kill this brave girl but also murdered thousands of innocent Pakistanis which include women and children in cold blood.
this operation must show some results, target their leaders,,,first you have to weak them by continuous bombing and now its time to test your missiles....and make dont run away... geo pak army.............
But please don't delay general elections in the name of military operation in North Waziristan.
Yes send in the troops so they can fight ghosts. Pakistan has some of the worst train troops for this kind of an situation and this guy wants to send em in. Its been 12 years since the US has been doing just that to no avail. Maybe try to provide jobs there, education send the military to protect those places but more conflict = more deaths of our soldiers.
So This was asked by Clinton? And u have follow her since iit involves dollars and your dollars in UK or USA. Other we know you can leave your dying leader being security officer
Too little, too late. By now the Taliban will have moved to another district.
Still, better late than never, after the Taliban have destroyed everything!
@Parvez: I am sure he is a natural blond.
so are you people clear now ... Malala hit just before start of the operation !!!!!
@The Truth: What happened, did your keyboard run out of ink? Please tell us all about the "CIA plans" you are talking about!
How easy it has become to fool Pakistani nation! We have shot our daughter to pave way for military offensive in North Waziristan.
Great work CIA ,, you are executing your plans perfectly...
As soon as Malik's name is associated with something you know that nothing of substance is going to happen. He reminds me of Saddam's information minister in the waning days of the Iraq war - a great reverse barometer.
Rehman Malik doesn't even believe Taliban shot Malala. He was on Indian CNN-IBN today saying it was some other group. As if that matters!!
Mr. Malik: they are all the same. The targets may be different. They all need to be eliminated or jaild for long period of time to reform.
Bottom line.. if this government will start operation in N Waziristan than my vote is for you..
Brilliant, and then you announce the strategy so the miscreants can run away. Is this how you used to run FIA - no wonder people were always on the wrong side of the bars. This is another reasonUS never told this Govt. of the OBL attack - they jammed all radars and telecom and ran an operation while the Govt. was 'contemplating'....
Go Pakistan go, the whole world will back you for this operation since it is for a noble cause of eliminating terrorism as well as regaining full sovereignty over the entire country.
well whenever rehman malik makes statements opposite happens
Operation in North Waziristan will be a futile exercise. Military will never be able to get the terrorists because they will cross over to Afghanistan where they will be housed in safe heavens and weapons to attack Pakistani border posts and villages.
Finally Pakistan has stopped denying the necessity to clean out the terrorist safe havens. What has Pakistan gained by dragging its feet for so long? What have they been waiting for, kindness from Taliban toward Pakistanis? We should finally do the right thing after we have tried everything else. The sooner the better, it would save many innocent lives of civilians and stop beheadings of army soldiers.
it must be done against sympathizer of TTP selectively in NWA
What are we waiting for, sooner the better, Pakistan as a nation will be with you.
" troops will only be sent in once if and when the state feels the need."
More than 30 soldiers have been beheaded in a gruesome fashion and Malik still feels that the state does not need to send miltary there. Turkey has gone to war with Syria when a shell exploded in a turkish border village.
Mr. Malik stop contemplating and do something. You don't announce this in the press; just go ahead and take the criminals out.
