Sophie Turner, widely recognized for her role in ‘Game of Thrones,’ is reportedly in negotiations to star as Lara Croft in Amazon’s upcoming ‘Tomb Raider’ series, an adaptation of the iconic video game franchise. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the Emmy-winning creator of ‘Fleabag,’ is attached as writer and executive producer for the series.
The news, exclusive to Deadline, follows previous reports that Turner had tested for the lead role, which was made famous on screen by Angelina Jolie and later portrayed by Alicia Vikander. Amazon MGM Studios Head, Jennifer Salke, described the new ‘Tomb Raider’ series as an “epic” and “globe-trotting” project upon its official announcement in May, with Waller-Bridge expressing excitement about bringing Lara Croft’s adventures to television.
Though Amazon MGM Studios has yet to confirm casting details, sources reveal Turner is the frontrunner, with the series expected to bring fresh energy to the Croft character while staying true to its adventurous roots.
