Free will marriage: LHC quashes kidnapping FIR
Tariq said in court that no one had forced her to marry Nasim and her father had lodged a false FIR.
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Thursday quashed an FIR against Tahir Nasim and three others accused of kidnapping Aroosa Tariq, after she submitted that she had wed Nasim by choice.
Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik also directed the police to take action against the complainants.
Ahead of the couple’s appearance before the court, about 30 members of Tariq’s family caught and beat them up, leaving Tariq unconscious. LHC security personnel took Mohammad Tariq, father of the girl, and Irfan Aslam, her uncle, into custody over the assault.
They also arrested two men from Nasim’s side and handed them to Old Anarkali police.
Tariq said in court that no one had forced her to marry Nasim and her father had lodged a false FIR. She had earlier filed a petition seeking the quashment of the FIR registered in Toba Tek Singh.
