RAWALPINDI:
A minor blast during the defusing process of an unattended bag set off panic at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) on Thursday. However there was no explosive material in the bag and the situation was normalised soon after. The bag was filled with bottles of shampoo and shaving kits, officials said. The explosion had been caused by the defusing process employed by the Pakistan Army Bomb Disposal Squad, said an airport official. The official explained that the noise was caused by a gas that the experts used to check the bag. According to airport sources, the airport security force was informed about the presence of an unattended bag placed at a parking lot. The security had called in the bomb disposal squad to look at the bag. As a precaution, the security at the airport was tightened after the incident.
