KARACHI:

The Sindh chief minister, Qaim Ali Shah, held meetings with the governor of Illinois and the mayor of Chicago. He went to the US on October 2 and will return on Thursday (today).

Though it was a personal visit, Shah took out time to meet the Chicago governor, Pat Quinn, and Mayor Rahm Emanuel to discuss agriculture, energy, health and education.

According to a statement issued by Chief Minister House on Wednesday, Shah informed Quinn that Sindh possesses huge reserves of coal which can be used for producing energy resources if technical assistance and investment is provided to the sector. Quinn assured Shah of his cooperation to invest in coal fields and told him that Illinois has modern technical skills for the extraction and gasification of coal.

The CM acknowledged that Emanuel and the state had taken good care of the Pakistani community. Shah acknowledged the city’s decision to name a portion of Devon Avenue after Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
