For public safety: Health minister calls emergency meeting
Health minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed organised an emergency press conference at his office on Monday.
KARACHI:
Health minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed organised an emergency press conference at his office on Monday to come up with a plan of action to combat the organism’s spread.
He said that only one patient went to a swimming pool while the rest used tap water. This is why the health department has been pressing KWSB to maintain the recommended amount of chlorine level in the water supply.
The minister announced that they will start a campaign to spread awareness about the deadly amoeba by distributing pamphlets on the infection.
Experts, however , said that the meeting as a waste of time. A KWSB official who did not want to be named, said that raising the chlorine levels in the water supply would be a futile enterprise - tanks in people’s houses may have silt, which would absorb all the chlorine, allowing the deadly amoeba to thrive.
