LAHORE: The first formal meeting of newly-elected office bearers of the Gold Art Promotion Council Pakistan was held on Monday, with Regional Standing Committee on Gems and Jewellery, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Chairman Muhammad Ahmad in the chair. The meeting discussed the situation emerging after the easing of Pakistan-India trade relations, and a recent visit of a joint delegation of the FPCCI and the Gold Art Promotion Council-Pakistan to India. Speaking on the occasion, Ahmad said that with ever-rising gold prices and depreciation of the Pakistani rupee against the dollar, there was an urgent need to enhance trade in gems and jewellery with India. “It will help Pakistan recover from the economic crunch. India has made significant achievements in the gems and jewellery sector, and it is necessary for us to attract world attention to our unlimited natural wealth of gems,” he added.
