Security official injured in IED blast
Improvised explosive device (IED) went off near a security forces truck on Risalpur-Nowshera Road.
PESHAWAR:
A security official was injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near a security forces truck on Risalpur-Nowshera Road on Sunday.
The bomb had been planted in the Sheesh Mandi area by unidentified assailants. A Risalpur police official, Javaid Khan, said that the IED exploded at around 10am, damaging the vehicle and injuring Zewar Shah, a security official. Police rushed to the site and took Shah to the Combined Military Hospital in Nowshera. Seven other personnel were also left with minor injuries after the blast.
Two kilogrammes of explosives were used to target the truck. “Hundreds of vehicles passed that road but it exploded only when the truck carrying security forces passed it,” Khan said. Militants have previously targeted security forces in a similar fashion. The official said that there were no militants or extremist groups in Nowshera or the surrounding area.
The police and security forces launched a search operation and arrested 15 people. “We are interrogating them but it will take time to catch the real culprit,” the official added.
