Curbing crime: Tinted cars banned for politicians, VIPs

No exceptions will be made, all violators to be penalised

PESHAWAR:
The provincial home and tribal affairs department has imposed a ban on using vehicles with tinted glass.

The ban applies to all citizens, including politicians and provincial cabinet members and was taken under the amendments in Motor Vehicle Rules 1969.

“In view of the ban, all requests from VIPs, cabinet members and various organisations to use tinted cars have been declined without any exception,” said a home department statement issued on Friday.

The provincial police have been ordered to direct traffic police officials across the province to strictly prevent the use of such vehicles and arrest all those violating orders.

The home department has also ordered the police to register FIRs against people running illegal businesses in residential areas. The department received reports that some houses in Hayatabad have been illegally converted into guesthouses. “This has panicked residents and can pose a serious threat to law and order in and around the city,” the statement said.

The capital city police chief should issue orders to the Hayatabad police to register cases and take action against the violators. A report must also be submitted to the home department, it added.

The section media officer of the home department, Qamar Ali, could not be reached for comments despite several attempts.

CCTV cameras

The provincial government has also directed all Public Call Offices (PCO) to install close circuit television cameras (CCTV) to monitor and curb the practice of threatening calls.

“All PCO owners should install CCTV cameras with DVRs for recording all calls. Data should be kept for at least one month,” the statement said. PCOs also need to keep a record of the caller’s name and their national identity card number.

Militants have been using PCOs for issuing threats and collecting extortion.
