KARACHI: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday claimed to have foiled an attack on Karachi Central Jail.

During a press conference in Karachi, CID DIG Kamran Fazal and CID SSP Chaudhry Aslam said interrogation of seven Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) militants revealed that they had planned to attack a Shia school bus to divert security forces’ attention and then attack the central jail.

The CID DIG repeatedly stated that the interrogation does not reveal that the militant organisation has plans to target different Shia schools. “The information we have extracted reveals plan only about a specific school,” he said.

Speaking about the presence of militants in the city, Fazal said the terrorists from the northern region settle in city areas where they don’t face language barrier.

Explaining the movement of terrorists and ammunition within the country, CID DIG said that all vehicles travelling to the city cannot be scrutinised as it will cause inconvenience to the passengers.

He added that much of the weaponry is brought to Karachi in pieces and is assembled here.

Responding to a question about Awami National Party (ANP) officers being on militants’ hit list, Fazal said CID has such information and is working in this regard.

Still I am unable to understand why mobile phone jammers are not installed in the jails throughout Pakistan. Whether we are following the freedom of expression act of USA?
