Expenditures on relief to be audited

The administrator has formed a three-member committee to carry out an audit of expenditures.

KARACHI:
Administrator Fazlur Rehman has formed a three-member committee to carry out an audit of expenditures incurred on the establishment of relief camps and the provision of food, water and other basic facilities to flood survivors.

The committee, under EDO transport and communication, City District Government Karachi (CDGK) finance and planning district officer and Sindh government local fund audit assistant director, will submit its report to the Sindh government.

The departments of revenue, municipal services, works and services and CDGK secretariat administrator will coordinate with the committee and will provide the details of expenditures on relief work to them to be taken into account while auditing.

Meanwhile, the CDGK has also decided to set up schools at relief camps to avoid the loss of education for the children of flood survivors. The first school was established at the Razzaqabad relief camp in Bin Qasim Town, where classes are being held for students between class one and 10.

Teachers at these schools will be appointed from within the camps. However, they will be brought in from the outside if no one at the camps is qualified to teach.

The government is also trying to provide facilities to play various sports, like football, cricket and volleyball, at the camps.
