Against the SPLGO: Trouble brews outside ruling party members’ houses
Angry protesters put up black skillets around the properties’ boundaries.
KARACHI:
The storm that erupted at the Sindh Assembly on Monday after the provincial legislature approved the new local government system is now hovering over the properties of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPAs, including Ayaz Soomro, Pir Mazharul Haq and Nisar Khuhro.
Angry protesters put up black skillets around the properties’ boundaries to imply that the ministers had ruined their own images by favouring the new law. This unusual form of protest has unsettled PPP MPAs. A very long meeting was held on Tuesday at the Chief Minister House where MPAs told Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah about the signs of resentment in their constituencies.
Though the chief minister’s spokesperson did not confirm the news, sources privy to the matter said that Shah has asked districts’ administration to provide more security to the PPP MPAs’ properties till the matter cools down.
“There was no meeting on how to deal any protests against the government. PPP has majority in Sindh and people are very happy with the local government system except for some nationalist groups who are trying to mislead the masses,” said the spokesperson.
