HARIPUR:

A passerby was wounded on Tuesday in crossfire between the police and six robbers attempting to flee after looting a jewellery store. The police arrested four robbers and recovered the looted items.

The Haripur police intercepted the robbers near Noor Colony on Khanpur Road after receiving a tip-off from the Taxli police that four armed robbers had entered the area in a passenger van after looting Javed Jewellers in Taxila Bazaar.

The Haripur police signalled the suspected Toyota Hiace (RIR 9535) to stop but the robbers speed away and started shooting at the police. The police returned fire and brought the van to a halt after bursting its tyres; however, a passerby, Waqar of Noor Colony, was wounded.

The arrested men: Muhammad Hanif, Kamran, Abdul Rasheed and Malik Bashir confessed to their crimes.
