SPLGO a conspiracy to create rift between Urdu, Sindhi people: JST
Speaker Sindh Assembly also slams Jalal Mehmood Shah for dubbing him a traitor by approving LG system ordinance.
KARACHI:
Jeay Sindh Tehreek (JST) President Dr Safdar Sarki has termed the approval of the Sindh Peoples Local Government Ordinance (SPLGO) from Sindh Assembly a conspiracy to trigger discord between Urdu and Sindhi-speaking people.
Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Tuesday, Sarki said that the Pakistan Peoples Party-Parliamentarian (PPP-P) and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) – whom he called ‘traitors of Sindh’ – had created a province within a province with unequal distribution of powers between mayors of all five ‘metropolitans’, since the mayor of Karachi has been given extra powers.
He maintained that the people of Sindh will resist the SPLGO till its abrogation which he said believed has divided Sindh administratively. He called upon the Urdu-speaking people to raise their voice against the SPLGO, which he called a conspiracy to fan a civil war in the province.
He said that the PPPP during its tenure had yet to do anything for the admissions of students of rural areas on merit basis in universities of the capital city of their province.
Sarki also announced that his party on October 3 would stage rallies to protest across the province against the ordinance and on October 14, they would organise a march in Karachi for which he sought support of other nationalist parties.
Abdul Fatah Channa, vice president of JST, Javed Chachar and other leaders were also present.
‘Jalal Mehmood Shah is the real traitor’
Speaker Provincial Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro slammed Sindh United Party chief Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah for dubbing him as traitor of Sindh, saying that Syed was the real traitor for not taking part in the movement against Kala Bagh Dam.
Addressing a press conference at Sindh Assembly building on Tuesday, he lashed out against Jalal Shah saying that when people across the province raised their voice against Kala Bagh dam, and anti-Kala Bagh Dam resolution was being tabled in the provincial assembly, Syed was the deputy speaker who tried hard to abrogate the resolution.
Khuhro further alleged that Jalal Shah had arranged a meeting between Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz (JSQM) and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) at Haider Manzil Karachi for rapprochement between them.
He dispelled the impression that the voice of protesting members of provincial assembly on the floor against SPLGO was not heeded and said that he had implored the members to return to their seats instead of protesting on the floor. As per rules, Khuhro said, their protests from the seats would be put on the record of the session.
For his part, Khuhro sounded dejected that the protesting members had failed to take his advice, and lost the chance to have an objection over the act recorded.
He added that the SPLGO had been passed by a majority of provincial assembly members and now the assembly is open for amendments if needed, adding that people would come to know the fruitful results of it when it is put into practice.
Khuhro said that other allies were also taken into confidence for the new local government system and were asked for their proposals for local system.
