LAHORE: Federal Minister for Information Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Tuesday that if Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif takes the responsibility of resolving security issues in Balochistan then the government will pull out the Frontier Corps from the province, Express News reported.

Speaking at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, Kaira said that the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government has “always owned up” to mistakes made in the past, even “if they were made by previous leaderships.” He said the PPP had been doing this in order to prevent any damage caused to Pakistan’s image.

Kaira said that the PPP does not please people by sloganeering like Sharif.

Responding to a question on why the PPP leadership did not meet former chief minister Balochistan Akhtar Mengal, while other political parties did, Kaira said that it was better to avoid going into details as it would further “increase the bitterness”.

He said that the party had welcome him and that nothing more could be said on the matter.

The PML-N chief had earlier warned that the fluid security situation in the province will worsen if “hidden powers” tried to influence the next parliamentary election.

Following a meeting with Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) leader Talal Bugti in Raiwind, Nawaz had said political forces should be given a chance to play a role in restoring normalcy in Balochistan.

A J Khan | 11 years ago | Reply The Supreme Court of Pakistan has remarked that there is a complete constitutional breakdown in the province. The hopeless and incompetent Police cover just 4% of the area of the province. Levies control 96 % of the area. However Levies Force has no articulation of command nor is any one sincerely responsible for their performance. This tribal based force is nothing more than the domestic guards of their Sardar paid by the government. In such circumstances, if FC is sent back, the peaceful citizens will have no choice but exodus from the Province. Thousand upon thousand have already fled the province

Mr Kaira has played very well to the gallery, however, this is not how to run a country. Why should Nawaz Shareef take responsibility of consequences after the FC is removed from Balochistan. Did FC get consent from Mr Nawaz Shareef before starting the operation in Balochistan. Mr. Kaira is a minister whereas Mr Shareef is just one single Pakistani, so he must carefully weigh his words uttering something.
